Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I am still in El Chalten. I hiked up into the park today for a look at Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, Torre Egger, and Cerro Solo (see picture). Luckily the weather today is beautiful. I spoke to some Germans last night who had been here for four days and had not seen the mountains yet because of cloud cover. The twelve mile hike was a blast without the pack, which I left at the hostel in town. This town sort of sprung up out of the blue in 1985 as a defensive maneuver against Chilean claims of Lago del Desierto (where I was camped for several days last week), but has turned into the main point of access for this end of the national park. I am going to stay i
n town one more night so I can go to church and have a bit of Christmas with some other people. Will likely head out in the morning for the East and the two big rainbow lakes that I want to hit. Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday; be good.
